Frequently asked questions

What is 'joinery', anyway?

In short, joinery is the tradition of woodworking techniques such as dovetails. You can learn more HERE.

Many cabinet companies offer plywood as an upgrade. Why does Jamaica Joinery avoid it?

Though plywood is clearly preferable to the less expensive particle boards which are often used in cabinet construction it is just as clearly inferior to solid wood in many ways. The primary objection to plywood and its cousins, particle board, MDF, and composites is their contribution to fairly toxic waste. All contain chemical adhesives or binders that are resistant to decomposition and if not clearly toxic at least possibly so. You can read more HERE.

Do I need to remodel to use your cabinets?

There is no inherent need to remodel, and often creative use of cabinetry can make the cost and inconvenience of remodeling unnecessary. However, if you are replacing existing cabinetry then at a minimum that will have to be removed and any plumbing or electrical services disconnected and reconnected.

Are Jamaica Joinery's cabinets expensive?

Our cabinets offer a range of pricing possibilities. Fully custom cabinets are inherently more costly but offer practically unlimited options. Our Unaccustomed Cabinetry offers equal quality at a significantly lower price point in exchange for more limited possibilities.

Do you install cabinets?

We are happy to install our cabinets within a reasonable drive of our shop. That distance will vary depending on the amount of cabinetry purchased and we will consider longer drives for a delivery fee. If you are interested in a purchase and would like a personal answer, contact us HERE
