Green Cabinetry from the Green Mountains
The cabinetry I offer now is the result of many years of experimentation and refinement. It is not as green as I would like but offers eco-friendly qualities with some small compromises to make greener cabinetry affordable. My goal is a ‘cradle to cradle’ product (which is what historical joinery was) a product that can be recycled or composted to feed future trees rather than joining with the plastics and e-waste in a toxic landfill.
I can now offer cabinetry that is primarily composed of solid wood rather than sheet goods such as particle boards and plywood. In order to keep this affordable I use some 1/4″ plywood but this cuts the problems of plywood by 2/3 compared to the 3/4″ plywood in common use for custom cabinetry. Even this can be eliminated at an increased cost for anyone who desires truly cradle to cradle cabinetry.
All of the finishes I use are Earth friendly, either water-based, or citrus solvent based so that no toxins are added in the finishing process. All hardware is of the highest quality so that the materials involved in their production are given a long lifetime of service.
Finally, I can now offer superior quality knock down construction to minimize carbon produced in shipping.
